Talacre Beach is a good spot for bird watchers

There are many reasons why people pack their suitcases and head on trips to North Wales. This part of the country can be picturesque and there is plenty to see and do. Also, there is a selection of holiday homes for sale in the area.

Meanwhile, some consumers favour this area because of the bird watching possibilities it affords. For example, the Point of Ayr in the Dee Estuary is a magnet for keen ornithologists. This spot is an RSPB nature reserve and it is known for its interesting and varied bird life.

This is especially the case during the winter months, when at high tide thousands of feeding birds are forced by the rising waters onto the salt marshes and closer to the shore. This can make for superb viewing opportunities.

Also, the Talacre dunes nearby are a firm favourite among birdwatchers and species that can be found there include terns, gannets, skuas, leach’s petrel and kittiwakes. Among the dunes themselves, it is possible for people to see whinchats, stonechats, skylarks and various warblers.

Talacre Warren, which is located between the end of Station Road and the lighthouse, is said to be a particularly good spot to see migrating species.

During the winter, it is best for visitors to get their binoculars out at high tide, the RSPB notes. However, by arriving a few hours before this point, people can watch the massive wader roost assemble. The organisation also recommended scanning the marsh for hunting birds of prey and it highlighted the fact that people can watch out for brent geese and other wildfowl.

Meanwhile, dog owners are permitted to take their pets on all footpaths in Talacre Beach.

Once holidaymakers have had their fill of sea air, they can head back to their caravans to warm up. There are plenty of sited static caravans for sale in the area that are ideal for bird watching enthusiasts and other visitors to the area.
