Looking for a new career? There are a whole range of jobs within the Security Industry but before looking for a security job you need to be fully qualified and licenced by the SIA.
The Security Industry Authority (SIA) is responsible for regulating the private security industry. Compulsory SIA training is in place to ensure that every security professional is meets the required standard and has had quality training that is approved by the SIA. Only when you have successfully completed and passed the required training can you apply for your SIA licence in the appropriate sector.
The SIA are also responsible for managing the voluntary Approved Contractor Scheme. The Approved Contractor Scheme measures private security firms against an independently assessed criteria and marks them depending on how well they have scored. The assessed criteria outlines performance standards that private security companies have to meet. If they pass, then security companies will be awarded Approved Contactor status. This accreditation by the SIA demonstrates the high standards shown by the company and provides independent proof to companies using their services of their commitment to quality.
SIA training and licencing covers a variety of security positions including manned guarding, door supervision, cash and valuable transit, close protection and CCTV (PSS).
SIA licencing ensures only fully qualified individuals are awarded an SIA licence after passing the relevant training. Without a relevant SIA licence it is illegal to work in the private security industry in the UK.
