Are Your Employees Taking You For a Ride?
In almost any workplace, there will be certain people who try to get away with as much as they can for as long as they can. The hard part is knowing exactly who might be doing this and how to avoid such problems or resolve them should they occur.
One of the easiest ways to avoid the majority of your staff trying to take advantage is to simply ensure that you keep them as happy as you possibly can and offer the same amount of respect to each and every member of staff, from the cleaners to the top execs.
However, even then you might not be able to ensure that people are not avoiding responsibility or even trying to take too much time off through breaks or even by calling in sick when they are not.
There are of course other ways to avoid such problems, and it may be that making an example of someone who has avoided responsibility could help you to ensure others do not try to follow suit. Whilst you might normally do everything you can to avoid an employment tribunal, when it comes to those who have actively tried to navigate around the responsibilities listed in their contract of employment, going to tribunal with one member of staff may ensure that others do not do the same.
The law often seems to favour workers over the companies themselves, but by using the right employment lawyer to help you draw up each and every contract of employment and to help you though any employment tribunal that might arise, you can be sure that you are doing everything within the letter of the law. However, by taking this approach, you will remain totally fair and kind towards employees, making sure you are always looking out for their best interests, but that you still ensure that they do not take you and your company for a ride.
