How Healthy are Your Towels?
All towels in our home will pick up dirt and germs. However, whilst some will be used merely for wiping up spills in the kitchen, others are used to dry the very things we eat with and even our own bodies. And yet, few of us consider just how unhealthy our towels might be and how often we should change our towels as a result.
The main reason for towels going for long periods of time without being washed is a lack of available replacements. Those with just a few towels will no doubt get fed up of constantly washing dirty towels and so will leave it as long as possible to change them.
However, by simply buying a few more bath towel sets and even some extra dishtowels, you can change them as often as you need to and just simply put a wash on when you have plenty to put in together.
It may seem that bathroom towels are unlikely to collect many germs, seeing as they tend to only get used on our clean, bathed bodies. However, with many people visiting your home or even simply living there, not only can people brushing past towels leave a residue of bacteria, but even people using towels after not washing their hands properly can leave you putting germs and bacteria back onto your clean body after you have showered.
The jury is out on how long you should wait between washing towels, but most people agree that any longer than 5 days will leave them encrusted with a good many germs. Therefore, buying new towel sets and washing your towels together once they have piled up may well not only keep you healthier, but it may also save you money on energy bills in the long run too, meaning staying healthy could also save you money.
