The Cost of Employee Absence for Businesses

From being late to having sick days, the amount of money that is lost every single year through employee absenteeism and tardiness is huge, costing billions of pounds for businesses and in turn the economy.

On the plus side, this figure is falling, and each year the cost of both absenteeism and employees turning up late is getting less and less. There are numerous reasons for this, but it is important that businesses do not become complacent and assume that these figures are falling without anything needing to be done about it.

In reality, the wide availability of very simple time & attendance software and the increase of occupational health and safety jobs within industries are together behind the reduced cost of absence. However, because the figure is dropping, it may be easy for companies to feel that they have very little work left to do and that they are tackling the problem sufficiently. However, this is not the case.

Without the right attendance monitoring software and without creating the necessary health and safety jobs within their business, company directors are unlikely to see their own costs falling. There are added benefits to creating such health and safety jobs and increasing software to help track exactly when employees work, and not only will businesses save money and increase efficiency, allowing them to be far more competitive all round, but with more profit, better rewards, and with fewer accidents due to the input of those with occupational health and safety jobs, the morale amongst any workforce will also undoubtedly be far higher too.

Having someone in charge of health and safety within the workplace is no longer a mere bonus, but instead it is something that is a necessity, in many cases a legal obligation, and in other a moral one. But, either way, it is a huge benefit to both employees and employers alike.
