The Fashion Cycle
Everyone knows that fashion is cyclical. What was in 20 or 30 years ago has a habit of coming back into fashion. People even joke that if you wait long enough and manage to keep the pounds off you can wear the fashions of your youth, second time around.
However, the reality is that as you get older you are highly unlikely to want to actually wear those clothes again. When you are young, you tend to go for the height of fashion to stay on trend. As you age and your confidence grows staying on the cutting edge of fashion appeals less and less. Your tastes evolve and eventually you end up with a core look, which you simply dress up and change a little, each year.
Elegance is Always In
The older you get the more you realise that elegance is more important than the latest fashion trend. If you dress in clothes that fit properly and blend well you always look good. Dressing elegantly makes you look and feel great. Elegance works particularly well in a work environment or in a formal setting, but even when you dress casually adding an elegant piece to your outfit adds a touch of overall chic.
There is also the added benefit that it is easy to jazz up elegant ladies clothing, by adding a zany piece of jewellery, belt or scarf. It is not so easy to change the look and feel of a high fashion designer dresses that has a less classical look and cut. However, elegant does not have to mean plain, far from it, as you will see when you go shopping this winter.
What’s In For Winter 2012?
This winter bold patterns are very much in. Texture is also playing a big role, but the cut is definitely elegant, designed to flatter and accentuate the figure rather than bury it under layers of fabric. The colours are rich with jewel tones like ruby reds and sapphire blues featuring heavily on the High Street. Crop-Tops with bold patterns or stripes paired with plain jackets, trousers and skirts are proving a particularly popular combination.
