Why Choose Solid Wood Flooring
When you decorate a space, getting the flooring right is crucial. The floor of any room is its biggest feature. If you get the floor wrong, you will spoil the overall look of the room. There is a lot of choice when it comes to flooring, however, in most situations a wood floor is the right solution.
Warm and Natural
Wood is unique in that it looks right in practically any setting. It looks just as good in a minimalist dining room as it does in an Art Deco or Edwardian room. Wood works well in both residential and commercial settings.
The size of the room is not important. It looks good in a small bathroom or a hug banqueting hall.
It not only looks good, it feels good too. Unlike tile or lino, wood is not cold underfoot. It has a neutral temperature. In the winter, carpets may be nice, but in the summer, they feel awful, wood is far better.
Wood is very versatile. It comes in many shades, tones and finishes. It can be laid in plain strips, but if you want a more interesting finish, you can have it laid in a pattern, like parquet. Any colour or finish can be achieved using stains, waxes and other natural wood finishing products.
Why Natural Wood
Many people are a little reticent about using natural wood for their antique wooden floor. Instead, they opt to use faux wooden flooring products. Sometimes this works out OK, but the majority of the time they end up regretting that decision.
False wooden floors simply do not look the same as natural wood. They are not as flexible when it comes to staining, if you choose the wrong colour you are usually stuck with it. If you do this with a solid wooden floor, you can have it stripped and re-stained.
Solid wood is far more hardwearing than faux wood. Usually fake wood floors are laminates and the finish is extremely thin. Thinner than paper, unsurprisingly this finish wears very quickly. In high traffic areas, this wear is obvious and looks ugly.
You may have to pay a bit more for solid wood flooring. However, when you consider that this type of flooring can literally last a lifetime it really is a very worthwhile investment.
