How the right offices can boost productivity
When bosses are selecting office space to rent they tend to focus on a range of criteria. For example, cost, size and location are often major factors in their decisions. However, there are less clear-cut matters to take into account too.
For example, certain worker environments may be better at boosting productivity than others. Writing on Business 2 Community, James Duval identified a number of “productivity influencers”.
He suggested that open plan environments have the potential to “stimulate creativity and interaction between colleagues”. However, he added that studies have also shown these open offices can lead to higher stress levels and illness thanks to the close proximity in which employees coexist.
Another issue for managers to consider is colour. About this, Mr Duval said: “You probably already know that blue is associated with being a ‘calm’ colour, while red is ‘aggressive’, but did you realise that colour psychology can be applied to the workplace? Colour has a greater impact on our habits and the way we go about life than many of us realise.”
He added that “savvy businesses” are hiring colour consultants to help them get the best out of their workers.
Meanwhile, adding cubicles to Manchester office space and so on may be helpful, he claimed. He stated that working in enclosed spaces can be “great for productivity levels”. About this, Mr Duval said: “Without the distraction of colleague interaction, cubicle dwellers will work more efficiently, complete tasks to a higher standard and have a greater sense of identity.”
Managers may also benefit from adding plants to serviced offices in Victoria and elsewhere. This helps to clean air, combat noise pollution and lower stress levels, he suggested.
Thankfully, bosses have plenty of choice when they are looking for offices these days, so they should succeed in finding premises that tick all of their boxes.
