Recharging Your Batteries is Better than Recycling Them

Recycling is always good for the environment, right? Well, as with many environmental issues, things are not going to always be totally clear cut, and recycling to make yourself feel or look better will never be the right way to go about being eco-friendly.

In ordinary batteries, there are few dangerous chemicals and, as such, the harm caused to the planet by simply disposing of them is minimal and will only be felt in terms of swelling landfills. On the other hand, the process of recycling ordinary batteries will cause just as much, if not more harm, and therefore it may actually be better to simply throw them away.

However, an even better way is to opt for rechargeable batteries as opposed to single use ones. These are far more environmentally friendly, often being able to be used 200 times more than an ordinary battery and with minimal harm to the planet. However, when you have finished using these batteries, it will be important to recycle them as they are far more harmful to the planet when they are disposed of than when they are recycled.

Therefore, the act of sourcing replacement batteries of any kind is not as easy as it seems if you want to stay environmentally friendly. Using rechargeable options will save an individual both hassle and money, ensuring that they do not have to keep buying batteries on a regular basis and at the same time removing a huge amount of potentially damaging waste.

So whilst recharging and recycling may seem very similar on the surface, their benefits are many miles apart, and it will always be best to choose a rechargeable option to an ordinary battery that you later simply try to recycle. And if you do currently have ordinary batteries in your home, it is a rare case when the best advice will be to choose not to recycle.
