The Importance of Employee Motivation

Getting employee motivation right is vital to the success of any business. This applies to practically any business that employs more than one person. A properly motivated employee will produce far more than one that is left to his or her own devices.

The Art of Employee Motivation

However getting employee motivation right can be quite difficult. This is because everybody is motivated in a slightly different way. What works with one group of employees may not work with another. In some cases, simply telling people that they have done a good job is sufficient to motivate them to continue to do well. In fact, it is very important to recognise the efforts of your employees and to thank them for a job well done.

However, it also makes sense to reward them with something physical rather than just words. Increasingly, firms in the UK are waking up to this fact and are looking for ways to reward their employees.

Many of the UK’s most successful firms provide their employees with some sort of incentive scheme. The most popular type of incentive scheme is one that awards points or stars to employees for good ideas or good work. These schemes are simple to administer and work well for practically any kind of work environment or group of employees.

However, awarding points is simply not enough. The key to these schemes is making sure that the points awarded can be turned into something the employee really wants. The more choice you can give an employee about how to spend their points the better.

The Simplest Employee Motivation Scheme

The scheme also needs to be simple to administer. You cannot allow the running of your employee motivation scheme to take up too much of your time.

Fortunately, there is a good solution available, and that is to run a catalogue employee motivation scheme. Using these schemes the points that employees have earned can be exchanged for a range of gifts that they select from an online catalogue. This kind of employee scheme can be setup relatively quickly and takes very little time to run and maintain.
