The Importance of Thorough First Aid Training
It is one thing having members of staff in challenging environments that are trained in first aid, but if they are not trained to a certain standard or if they are not free to deal with matters in the way they need to be dealt with, any money spend on training may have been totally wasted.
By law, many businesses will need at least one person trained in first aid on hand at all times. However, in places where accidents are common or likely to be serious, or should your workforce rarely have time to stop for a breather, those most needing first aid may struggle to get the attention they need. Furthermore, if the first aid training that staff receive is not thorough, they may only be able to offer very superficial help.
For instance, knowing how to tend to cuts or bumps to the head is one thing, but having the time to sit with someone to ensure they truly are okay and having the knowledge to suggest which symptoms one should look out for after an accident are two completely different things, and the latter form of aid is likely to be just as important, if not more so, than the former.
Thorough training in first aid is also important for other reasons, and not only will an individual need to know how to respond to a variety of different problems and be trained in first aid that is relevant to their job, but the right training will also inspire confidence. Being able to respond quickly and effectively is one of the most important skills of a first aider and should an individual not be confident in their own skills, they are far less likely to deal with the situation in the right way. As such, when looking for any type of course for first aiders, always be sure that it will teach individuals more than just the basics.
