Be a responsible and caring dog owner

As children get older it’s only a matter of time before they start asking for a pet of some sort. The right choice depends on a number of different factors. Different animals have different needs. Some are far more hands on than others. They might be more rewarding animals to own, but new owners have to be prepared for additional levels of responsibility in order to give them a happy and healthy life.

A dog is a great pet to own. They are loyal, affectionate and lots of fun, but their basic needs should never be underestimated. It’s all too easy to be seduced by a cute puppy, but that little bundle of fur will soon grow into a large adult animal that needs plenty of food and lots of exercise.

Even a smaller breed can walk miles each day. Larger animals need to go further. They make a walk more fun, but owners have to be prepared to take them out each and every day, no matter what time of year it is and how bad the weather.

They need a warm and secure place to sleep. A proper bed is essential, if only to to keep them off the furniture! And then there’s diet. This is vitally important. There’s no one size fits all approach to getting it right. Each individual breed and even animal are different. Some prefer wet to dry food, others like a mix. It’s important to get some advice to make sure they are getting the right balance of foods and in the right quantities. The right diet is a major factor in their well being.

At a specialist pet store they can help and advise novice owners to make sure they give their new pets the right food. A new canine companion is a great addition to the family. Just make sure it’s looked after properly.
