Organising Holidays When You Have Dogs

Organising a holiday can be hard work for those with any pet, but specifically for those who own a dog. Whilst many animals will need nothing more than someone to leave some food in the right place for them each and every day, dogs will need far more focussed care, needing walks, supervision and a great deal of love and affection.

Some animals come back from kennels completely changed beasts, worried that their owners will leave them again and that, next time it might be for good. In turn, owners often feel a great deal of guilt about going away, and find that they spend their relaxation time worrying about their dogs, or simply choose a shorter break than they might otherwise have liked.

Dog owners have similar problems every single day, not being able to go off on a whim, and needing to make sure they are back to feed and care for their pooch at a set time. Therefore, holidays may be even more precious to dog owners, and should be seized with both hands.

If kennels are out, consider using a dog sitter. The familiarity of being at home, being cared for by a face they know will help a huge amount, as will the ability to have the same animal feed and the same schedule. In other cases, it may be best to choose a holiday closer to home and to get a pet passport for your dog, taking them along for the ride. Heading to the continent may be easy for those with a pet passport, and, again, being able to take pet food and toys they are used to will keep them healthy and happy even when there is a dramatic change of surroundings.

Dog owners don’t have to miss out on holidays – with a passport or a trusted pet sitter, a vacation can be as fun for the animals as it is for the owner.
