Keeping Your Dog Mentally Stimulated

Unlike cats who can go off on their own whenever they like and in turn spend time exploring and enjoying the company of other cats, the majority of dogs will be kept inside or in a back garden when they are not being walked by their owner. This can lead to many dogs not being stimulated throughout the day, especially when owners are off at work or preoccupied and unable to give their pet their full attention.

Giving them a space to play whilst you are away will be a big help, allowing them plenty of toys to sink their teeth into so they don’t do the same with your furniture. However, even when you are with your pooch, their will be ways to make more of the games you play and in turn ensure they are as stimulated as possible.

The first thing you should do is understand their breed. Different breeds have different energies and will be interested in different things, so the things one dog will enjoy, another might find extremely dull.

The majority of dogs will love to play, and taking the time to do so regularly will be important to ensure they don’t lose their zest for life over time. However, games don’t just have to be frivolous and instead can help them develop their senses too or even be educational. Try setting assault courses, or creating games they have to finish before they get their food as reward.

The most important thing when looking to stimulate your dog will be patience. Not all games will be understood straight away, but your pooch will thrive on the challenge. Visiting the right online pet shop will not only help you find ideas for games you can play, but it will also help you find the very best foods to feed your pup, which will help them to stay even more mentally alert, and feel even more stimulated before you have even changed a thing about your routine.
