The Importance of Correct Portion Sizes for a Pet

Eating is an important part of daily life for people across the United Kingdom as a mean of receiving a source of nutrients and vitamins to remain healthy and energetic. Although people have the complete freedom to choose what and when they eat, doctors and health professionals recommend that each person, irrespective of their age and gender, should consume three balanced meal at certain intervals of the day. Certain foods, such as fruit and vegetables, contain more minerals and nutrients which are important to those who wish to establish or maintain a healthy lifestyle.

While Government concerns over obesity levels are primarily focused on humans, pet owners should also consider the health and wellbeing of their animal, insect or reptile. Like humans, cats and dog require an adequate source of food on a daily basis in order to receive essential nutrients and vitamins from natural ingredients that are utilised for energy, strength and agility. Providing a balance of dry and wet food products allows a pet to enjoy the succulent flavours and texture of food that is tailored to feel nourished and maintain good oral health.

Although it is important to source pet foods that are of a good quality and suitable for the age and breed of a dog or cat, providing the correct portion sizes is of paramount importance to the overall health of a pet. Animals depend on their owner to put out the correct levels of food to maintain a healthy weight and ensure their body receives the nutrients it requires to remain energetic and happy.

Poor pet nutrition can be achieved through providing the wrong portion sizes for a cat or dog. Owners who do not provide adequate levels of food can result in owning a pet that become considerably weak and lack the ability to carry out cognitive function through a lack of energy. On the flipside, serving a cat or dog with too much wet or dry food can result in weight gain which can place considerable stain upon the body and joints. This can potentially result in numerous health problems that further decrease a pet’s quality of life and indicate a lack of care or welfare from their owner.

The considerable risks caused by incorrect portion sizes should serve a purpose to every pet owner to ensure they provide their cat or dog with appropriate feed to preserve their health and wellbeing.
