Warehouse Logistics
Effectively warehouse logistics are a cataloguing system within the warehouse in order to keep an eye on stock and indicate where exactly it is within the warehouse. The basics of warehouse logistics are effectively just a system that indicates where something is. If you did not have a warehouse logistics system in place and asked a worker to fetch a specific piece of stock, they would have no clue where to find it. This is simply bad business for someone involved in physical stock in a warehouse, it is highly incompetent to not have warehouse logistics in place within the warehouse, and as a result the business could fail due to this incompetence. In addition to making stock easy to find with warehouse logistics, it is also a great way of ensuring there is no fraud going on with the stock through theft. Having warehouse logistics outline where the stock is and how much of it there is should indicate with regular stock checks if anything goes missing. Missing stock is a very bad thing whether you are tasked with storing it for another company or intend to move it out into a store, either way money if coming out of your pocket to either compensate the other company or having to replace stock due to the theft.
While warehouse logistics can do little to prevent the theft it does give you a number of systems for ensuring that the stock is thoroughly kept secure in terms of accountability. If someone who has access to the stock and the warehouse logistics system sees some kind of discrepancy in data, they can raise the alarm and start rounding up suspects for an internal investigation into who is stealing from within the company. In terms of safety warehouse logistics is also good for ensuring pedestrian and vehicle lanes within the warehouse to minimise the injury levels that could potentially soar without warehouse logistics. Without these lanes people could quite easily walk into the path of a forklift and get run over or worse, so be aware that warehouse logistics are for more than just simply cataloguing.
