360 feedback helps managers to develop

Companies are constantly looking at ways to refine the way they work. Management is a science and good management has a huge impact on the bottom line, innovation and the morale of staff. People are the most important resource any business possesses. It’s vitally important to invest in them and listen to them in order to get the most of out of them and to ensure that they enjoy their work and perform to their potential.

The annual appraisal is a common ritual in most workplaces. Once a year employees will sit down with their immediate line manager to discuss performance and set new goals and objectives for the year ahead. It’s great to have this gauge of performance and everyone needs goals to work towards. But what about managers? Wouldn’t this process work better with 360 degree feedback?

The answer is a resounding yes. Feedback from their team is important. They are equally keen to develop as the people who work for them. Many are new in post. Who better to appraise them than the people who work for them?

This can be slightly awkward in some ways, so some sort of anonymous survey tool works best. Team members can comment freely without any fear of come back and provide honest feedback with the fear of their honesty coming back to haunt them. 360 feedback helps to build a more complete picture of how a manager is doing and what they need to work on in order to improve.

Investing in a survey tool in order to complete this process is a smart move. An investment that can pay itself back with huge dividends. A better managed business is a happier and more productive one. Help everyone fulfil their potential and grow and develop with this simple change to the appraisal system.
