Online sales of dairy free products may be on the up

In the past, it was often difficult for consumers to find dairy free food because they were largely restricted by the products available in their local areas. However, with the explosion of online shopping, this has all changed. Now, people can take their pick from a whole range of dairy free food, including chocolate, desserts and much more.

If recent predictions turn out to be accurate, sales of dairy free produce over the web may rise yet further this year.

According to the latest the IMRG Capgemini e-Retail Sales Index, a total of around £87 billion will be spent at online retail stores in 2013. This would be a rise of 14 per cent on last year.

Many of those on the lookout for dairy free products may use their mobile devices to make purchases. The experts behind the report suggested that mobile ecommerce will continue to grow as a key influencer throughout this year.

It was noted that sales through mobiles, including tablets, were especially strong in 2012, with total sales up 304 per cent on the previous 12-month period.

Commenting on this trend, Chris Webster, head of retail and technology at Capgemini, said: “The big stand out is mobile commerce and its growth in the last 12 months has been staggering. The developments in the technology and the steps taken by retailers to improve their mobile services have seen a shift from browsing, to a fully fledged commerce site integral to our shopping experience.

“Visits and sales from either a smartphone or a tablet device are nearly four times higher than last year – we are reaching a point where we are spending longer on our phones shopping than making calls.”

Mobile web shopping can offer consumers the ultimate in convenience, so it is no surprise that so many people are taking advantage of it.
