Choosing a Colour Scheme for Your Bathroom

Whether you want a bathroom that helps you relax and unwind or one that energises and stimulates you early in the morning, choosing the right colour scheme is key to getting the right ambiance. Picking a palette is largely a matter of personal taste, but there are also some practical considerations about the size and layout of your bathroom that you might want to consider before making your decision.

Before looking at colour charts, it is wise to first have a good look at the size of your bathroom and the style of lighting. Small bathrooms and those which lack natural light are best complemented by neutral or soft tones to help create the illusion of a large space, whereas large well-lit bathrooms are much more able to cope with bright colours and bold designs. Unfortunately, even if you have a favourite colour or idea of what would look great in a bathroom, if it is not right for your home, but you implement it anyway, you will likely come to regret your decision.

If you opt for neutral colours, one of the best ways to inject some colour and create a theme is through the use of accessories. It is much easier and cheaper to replace accessories than it is to redo a bathroom and so, by keeping the walls and fittings simple and being a bit more adventurous with your trimmings, you will have more scope to change your mind or mix things up again easily in a few years time. Think ornaments, storage containers, mats and bath towel sets, and whether you want these to all be the same colour or different colours which complement but contrast with one another. By adding bright towel bundles to a neutral bathroom you will get an instant pop of colour and create a really stylish finish, whilst at the same time getting something extremely practical that can be altered to suit your mood or even the season.
