Demand for timber may be high

A lot of consumers may be set to take advantage of the services provided by a timber merchant over coming months. For example, they might need to make the most of MDF cutting.

After all, research conducted by Nationwide Building Society has suggested almost half of UK consumers are keen to make changes to their properties. Some of these alterations may involve wood of various kinds.

Of the people polled by the firm, 47 per cent revealed they intend to make improvements to their abodes over the next year. This was considerably higher than the number of individuals who planned to move to new houses or flats. Only eight per cent of respondents expressed a desire to up sticks over the coming 12 months.

Meanwhile, of those who plan to enhance their properties, 72 per cent wished to update or modernise their décor, while nearly one in ten revealed they were running out of space in their residences.

Some consumers may be relying on loans to help them fund their use of MDF cutting and other timber merchant services. Nationwide found that the most popular sum borrowed for home improvements is £10,000 to be paid back over a five-year period.

Responding to the figures, the firm’s head of personal loans Paul Wootton said: “A static housing market means many people are unable to move home and are opting to make home improvements instead.”

He went on to advise consumers who plan to take out loans to make sure they find the best rates possible.

By accessing the best deals on finance and by purchasing competitively priced materials and products for their home revamps, individuals may be able to save themselves a tidy sum. Ultimately, this could make their property improvements much more affordable and it may stop them from getting into financial difficulties.
