Out with the old and in with the new

A lot of people in the UK may have been making use of scrap car collection services. It is possible to take advantage of competitive scrap car prices and many people have been getting rid of their old vehicles in exchange for new versions.

According to figures produced by the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT), new car registrations rose by 9.3 per cent last month. It revealed that over the course of July, a total of 143,884 units were sold in the UK.

Meanwhile, the organisation pointed out that this was the fifth monthly gain in a row and was the most significant of 2012 so far.

The society went on to predict that a total of around 1.97 million new cars will be sold this year. If this proves to be accurate, it will mean sales this year exceed those of 2011. Last year, 1.94 million units were sold.

Commenting on the figures, SMMT chief executive Paul Everitt said: “New car registrations rose 9.3 per cent in July, continuing the upward trend seen during recent months.”

He added: “International economic stability remains a concern for vehicle manufacturers and the UK market, but intense competition and new fuel efficient products are creating great opportunities for motorists.”

Many of those who take advantage of scrap car collection services may be swapping their old vehicles for new Ford Fiestas. This was the best-selling model in July and over the first seven months of 2012.

Meanwhile, other popular vehicles included the Vauxhall Corsa and Astra, which were ranked second and third respectively in terms of popularity during July.

The SMMT also revealed that sales of alternatively fuelled cars have risen.

Whatever kind of vehicle they buy in exchange for their old motors, consumers tend to be keen to access the best scrap car prices.
