First aid at work is an essential part of health and safety policy

Thankfully most people get through the average day at work without incident. However, sometimes things go wrong. Someone is taken ill or has an accident and that’s when first aiders step in. Everyone is grateful to their colleagues, the ones who volunteer to train up to help make the workplace safer for everyone.

When it comes to first aid at work anyone can put themselves forward to attend a course and acquire these vital safety skills. It’s a great confidence builder and gives people a valuable new skill. A complete novice can attend a basic course and come back to the office with a range of new skills and first aid techniques that they can put in practice right away if required. Over time they can attend more advanced courses and continually add to their skill set.

Making sure that people attend first at work training is a vital part of any organisation’s safety policy and programme. Good health and safety at work is an ongoing battle and one that requires resources, vigilance and the cooperation of the workforce. It’s never easy that’s for sure.

Companies invest huge amounts of time and resource educating their workforce about potential hazards, they carry out endless risks assessment to make sure any problems are highlighted and eliminated, but that’s still no guarantee that things won’t go wrong. And if they do, that’s where first aiders step in.

Businesses need to make sure that they have a trusted training partner to provide the courses that their staff need to acquire these essential first aid skills. It’s a core part of any health and safety policy. It’s reassuring to know that out there in the warehouse, on the shop floor or in the office, first aiders are on standby just in case something goes wrong and a colleague needs their assistance.
