Manufacturer cuts costs with electric forklifts

There are lots of electric forklift trucks for sale these days and by choosing the best ones for their firms, managers can help to boost efficiency levels.

One organisation that has been making effective use of such vehicles is BDR Thermea. It has started utilising Flexi EURO VNA trucks in its French finished goods warehouse. Thanks to these forklifts, the heating and hot water systems manufacturer and distributor has been able to rationalise its fleet of trucks.

The new electric vehicles are adapted to work in narrow aisles and they have taken over tasks previously performed using a combination of counterbalanced trucks and reach trucks.

BDR Thermea decided to bring in these electric forklifts after conducting a review of its handling processes. Previously, it had relied on a system of double deep storage. Now, with its eight new Flexi trucks, it has been able to switch to single deep aisles.

The Flexi VNA AC truck is a four-wheel, electric-powered articulated truck and it is able to work in aisles some 200mm narrower than comparative models. Meanwhile, at the heart of the vehicle is a unique compact front wheel drive axle design. This, along with the truck’s ability to articulate through 220 degrees, permits easy and safe stacking and minimal manoeuvring in the aisles.

Highlighting the popularity of vehicles like this, John Maguire, sales and marketing director of Flexi Narrow Aisle, said: “The last five years have seen tremendous growth in demand for Flexi articulated truck technology from European logistics service companies, retailers and manufacturing companies.”

When firms are keen to save money on their forklifts, they can invest in used models rather than purchasing brand new vehicles. There is plenty of variety available in the market and, as long as they choose a reliable supplier, companies can benefit from superb quality second-hand trucks.
