Organising Your First Conference

Conferences can be organised for many different reasons. For some, it can be about bonding certain individuals or uniting a company more effectively overall, whilst for others it will simply be about bringing people together with mutual interests so that ideas and knowledge can be shared to mutual benefit. They may help train individuals on a large scale or even simply ensure that those in academia have the greatest range of relevant information available to them.

As such, even the smallest of businesses or organisations may decide that it is beneficial for them to organise a conference, and doing so without the aid of those with a vast experience of preparing such events can be a very tricky thing.

The first thing to ascertain is whether or not you really do have the time and resources to organise such an event. Whilst there is no doubt that such events are very beneficial to a wide range of people, should they leave you struggling financially, they could cause more harm than good.

Once you know that organising a conference is financially viable, finding venues in Manchester in which to hold your event will be the first thing to do. Knowing what facilities you have available to you will inform a great deal of the further stages of planning, whilst securing a place at the best venue far in advance will be important to ensure you are not left with having to use an unsuitable conference hall. In turn, you can start initial promotion for the event whilst you finalise all other details.

Once you have found hotels with conference facilities, you will need to make sure you know your target audience and plan the format and advertise/inform people about the event accordingly. Make a thorough checklist at this point of what you need and the speakers you want, and always make sure you research other successful conferences in your specific field to help you understand what will truly make your event work.
