The importance of effective office design
There is plenty of office space to rent. However, bosses should never be complacent about this task. Underestimating how big an effect offices can have on the success of their firms can be a huge mistake.
Highlighting the importance of this subject, business expert Shagufta Anurag recently suggested that effective office deign can enhance the quality of people’s working lives.
Writing in the Economic Times, she stated: “It is no longer acceptable to work within four blank walls on a random work surface throughout the day with people feverishly tapping away at their keyboards surrounded by chatter and telephone rings. Today’s offices are places that generate a buzz, are crucibles of creativity and social hubs.”
According to Ms Anurag, today’s office worker demands an environment that is efficient and enables them to get their work done while also providing a safe haven.
She went on to state: “Design promotes a sense of belonging for the individual and creates an identity specific to a company, thereby helping indoctrinate the brand and culture within the employees and visitors alike.”
The appropriate use of colours, textures, lighting and other design principles helps to facilitate this, she added. She also pointed out that customised furniture solutions for office desks and cabinets are now available,
Using an example, she noted that Google’s offices have an “academic campus-like feel to them”.
Luckily for managers, searching for suitable office space is now easier than ever. By heading online, they can peruse a wide range of options.
As well as thinking about the design of office space, as Ms Anurag emphasises, there are many other issues for bosses to consider. For example, they need to think about location, price, size and length of tenure.
By making the right choices, company leaders can dramatically enhance their chances of long-term success.
