The Importance of Pest Control for Food Establishments

Food establishments pride themselves on establishing and maintaining high standards of food and customer service to enjoy considerable success within the industry. Whether it is a pub, restaurant or takeaway company, each business must continuously meet the demands and expectations of current existing and prospective customers. The quality of food is ultimately the biggest selling point for any food establishment who provide mouth-watering meals across the board or tailor their area of expertise through qualified Indian, Italian or Chinese chefs to offer a streamlined service.

As part of every day service, food establishments must make maintaining food hygiene standards a priority to remain operational and in business. This should include procedures such as regularly washing hands, wearing clean chef whites and wearing hair nets for men or women who have long hair that could contaminate the food they prepare. Maintaining a clean working environment is fundamental to the overall smoothness and efficiency of daily food services as employees can not only utilise their skills and experience to produce top quality food, but do so without any health risks.

Environments in which food is prepared on a daily basis can create an unwelcome opportunity for pests to stay on a temporary or permanent basis. Mice and cluster flies are archetypal examples of pests which can create a considerable health risk within a kitchen. They can instantly contaminate ingredients or meals, and potentially damage electrical wiring and equipment which can create a considerable risk to anyone using an electrical-powered facility or utensil to prepare food.

Placing mouse traps within hidden areas of a kitchen and seating area can not only ensure pest control measures are effectively in place, but can eliminate the potential occurrence of a pest from being spotted by a customer. Spotting a mouse in or around a food establishment instantly resembles an unhealthy kitchen from which food is prepared; it can act as an immediate deterrent for customers to eat food and take their custom elsewhere as they believe their health would be placed under considerable risk.

Potential loss of business and food contamination ultimately illustrate the importance of integrating pest control measures, such as mouse poison and traps, to eliminate the potential threat and continue operating in a hygienic and healthy manner.
