A dog is the most rewarding family pet
As the children get a little bit older it’s time to think seriously about getting a pet. They’re old enough to help out and looking after an animal teaches some great basic life lessons. It’s hugely rewarding too and helps to create lasting memories.
Very small children might like a hamster or a rabbit, but for older children a dog is perfect. They become like one of the family. They’re smart, loyal and loads of fun. There’s always more point to a walk with a canine companion in tow.
No other pets really compare. They can be trained to obey basic commands and they give so much back in return. That wagging tail and excited bark when people come in through the door is just so welcoming. They’re such relaxing animals to own too. Sitting down and stroking one after a long hard day at work helps relieve those everyday stresses.
However, it’s not all plain sailing and people need to consider their situation and the long term commitment involved. Some dogs can live for fifteen years. Even longer sometimes. Over time that all adds up in terms of food, accessories and the occasional trip to the vet. Owners need to be in it for the long haul. Anyone who takes on a pup needs to be aware of their responsibilities.
These are animals that need plenty of love and attention. They’ll need to walk at least several miles each day. Then there’s diet to think about. Each animal is different and there are so many types of breed. There’s certainly no one size fits all approach to canine nutrition. Thankfully there’s plenty of choice and advice to be found at a reputable pet store. Owners can find everything they need for their new friend to give them a happy and healthy life.
