Maritime Safety Laws are Changing

Australia recently announced major changes to what it saw as archaic maritime safety laws. Whilst in the UK, we have many more modern rules regarding working at sea, there are still many laws and restrictions in place that are out of date and no longer necessary, and therefore, with such major changes going on down under, it may not be too long before laws change in Europe too.

The fact that laws are changing is important for anyone who works at sea. Those who are looking to have the most effective maritime safety may also wish to brush up on their safety training to ensure that they know all of the most effective ways to deal with situations as well as to understand if any changes in maritime laws around the globe may affect them and the job they do.

After all, even those from Britain are unlikely to simply stay close to home if they work at sea and therefore a better knowledge of the laws around the world may well be integral.

The right maritime training is not just something that will be beneficial, but is instead a legal requirement. However, that being said, it is not only important to get new recruits up to scratch in terms of safety training, but also to ensure that those who may have worked at sea for many years know the most effective way to deal with emergencies today rather than simply relying on the training they may have received many years ago.

Australia is not the only country reviewing its maritime safety laws and many countries across the globe are striving to find ways of increasing efficiency and safety in equal measures. Therefore, whether an old hand or new to a life at sea, almost everyone can benefit from being given a fresh perspective on staying safe in the ocean.
