More people are leaving friendship groups in search of work

When people arrive in a city to start a job, they often want to meet new people with similar interests and hobbies.

It’s not always possible to do this through their work, but there are now different ways to expand their social circles. For example, by heading online, they can get to know lots of likeminded individuals. This can make settling into their new lives much easier and more fun.

Statistics released by job search engine Adzuna suggest that a considerable number of people may be relocating to find work.

It revealed that at the start of this month, there were 491,299 live job vacancies. This was a four per cent rise on August.

To get the roles they are looking for, it helps if people are flexible concerning where they base themselves. By being open minded in terms of where they live, individuals can open up many more opportunities for themselves.

Meanwhile, knowing that they can easily make friends online when they arrive in their new destinations can enhance the appeal of moving.

How much money they will have to spend on their social lives depends on their earnings and, according to Adzuna, the average salary is now £33,166 a year.

Meanwhile, advertised wages in the IT sector increased at the fastest rate, climbing by eight per cent over the last six months to reach £43,492. This was followed by call centre jobs, with salaries for these roles climbing by six per cent to £30,026. Construction jobs also registered a six per cent increase, with average pay in the sector now £35,111.

On the other hand, NHS doctor salaries decreased by eight per cent to £41,328.

Commenting on the figures, Adzuna co-founder Andrew Hunter stated: “It’s been a fairly positive start to the year, with solid vacancy figures showing the labour market is relatively robust, despite the looming threat of a triple-dip recession.”
