Tackle dog obesity with pet dieting

People really love their pets. In a disconnected world they are constant source of companionship, even a child substitute in some ways. No wonder some people go a little overboard by pampering them. A few treats is one thing, but designer dog wear, make overs, birthday parties and doggie gyms? Where will it all end?

People mean well, but they could end up killing their dogs through what they perceive to be kindness. Over feeding is a common problem. People indulge their dogs with the wrong kinds of foods and they start to put on weight as a consequence. Dogs are active animals. They need plenty of exercise and just a modest amount of food for a happy and healthy life.

Regular pet food doesn’t have to be expensive or indulgent. Just a nice mix of wet and dry foods will give them everything they need. Treats should be reserved for special occasions and as a reward when training a dog. There’s no need to give them fine food or cook things for them. It’s not like they appreciate it and it’s too rich for them on the whole. A little bit of common sense goes a long way.

For anyone who finds themselves with a portly pooch it’s time to take action. That dog needs to slim down to avoid long term health problems. Pet dieting is a challenge, but special low calorie foods can help. It’s all about control too. Anyone looking for specialist advice should call into a specialist pet store. The staff will be only too happy to help. With the right programme and a bit more discipline it should be possible to trim that dog down and get it back to a more normal weight. Over feeding is a major problem. Being a good and responsible owner means feeding dogs properly.
